All vehicles (except hybrids) are required for smog inspections, electric, natural gas powered (Gross Vehicle Weight of over 14,001lbs), motorcycles, trailers and 1975 models or older. There are no smog inspection exemptions for military.
2. Who is responsible for obtaining a Smog Check when a vehicle is sold?
Smog certifications are good for 90 days from the date they are issued. The seller is required to give the buyer smog inspection certification at the time of the sale. Smog certifications are not required for transfers of motor vehicles less than four years old.
3. How do I know if my car was directed to Test-Only Station or not ?
The DMV will have a notice to have the Smog checks performed at a Test-Only Station. The registration Renewal Notice sent for these vehicles will say "Smog Certification Required at Test-Only Smog Check Center".
